Little Mercies & Metta Charities in Thailand
In 2020, Little Mercies founders partnered with Metta Charities founder Johny Adhikari to extend aid to the impactful work already being done at the Thai-Myanmar (Burma) border.
About Metta Charities
Since 2011, Johny Adhikari and few volunteers have been devoted to improving living conditions for migrant children in the Mae Sot District near the Thai-Myanmar (Burma) border.
By providing education, medical care, and a sense of community to this under-served migrant population, the organization seeks to break the cycle of chronic poverty.
Background
Myanmar’s (Burma) long history of civil war has displaced nearly 500,000 of their citizens. Many Burmese people move across the border into Northern Thailand to flee the perpetual conflict that has plagued the region since 1948.
As a result, migrant refugees live in Thailand’s rural areas in conditions of chronic poverty.
Through the three small campuses Adhikari has established south of Chiang Mai, we provide basic medical care and education to over 400 children and their parents.
